Rob Dombrowski

Director of Hockey Performance

Rob Dombrowski is the first Director of Hockey Performance at Sacred Heart University. He began in that position in September of 2022.

Dombrowski returned to his alma mater to be responsible for the oversight and development of all aspects of physical performance for both the men’s and women’s ice hockey teams including speed, power and strength development, conditioning, nutrition, recovery, fatigue monitoring and sport science.

Dombrowksi is tasked with integrating a cutting-edge sports performance program with the hockey teams. Under his leadership, a comprehensive performance-based model was developed, focusing on athletic development, movement quality and injury reduction strategies.

Prior to joining SHU, Dombrowski served as the Director of Performance at Prentiss Hockey Performance, one of the leading sports performance facilities in the country. During his nine-year tenure, he oversaw the physical development and performance testing of professional, collegiate and elite youth athletes.

His professional expertise includes training athletes from the NHL, AHL, NFL, MLB, MLL and various European hockey and soccer teams. While at PHP, Dombrowski also spearheaded the program design and long-term physical development for a majority of the clientele. His other responsibilities included oversight of the training curriculum, performance analytics, staff onboarding and development and the co-creation of the Hockey Hip Injury Prevention online training program.

Dombrowski is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). He is also a Functional Range Assessment and Functional Range Conditioning practitioner, specializing in enhancing movement capability, mobility development and injury reduction.

Dombrowski received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science from Sacred Heart University in 2013. He resides in Fairfield with his wife, Jessica, and their two children, Marlowe and Grace.


Jordan Hines

Assistant Performance Coach

Jordan Hines is an Assistant Performance Coach at SHU Sports Performance. He began that position in 2023.

Hines finished up as a Graduate Assistant Strength Coach with the Strength and Conditioning staff at Sacred Heart University. In his time, he worked with Football, Women’s Lacrosse, Women’s Soccer, Men’s/Women’s Golf, Women’s Rowing, Equestrian, and Cross-Country teams.   

In addition to being a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) strength coach through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA), he is a licensed Athletic Trainer who has worked with all ages. His professional expertise includes NHL, NFL, AHL, and European hockey players.

Hines is originally from Essex Junction, Vermont, where he played Football, Basketball, and Lacrosse growing up as well as playing Division III Lacrosse player at Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts.


Justin DeCoursey

Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach

Justin DeCoursey is an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach at Sacred Heart University. He works with Men’s Ice Hockey, Women’s Rugby and Women’s Swimming and Diving.

Prior to joining SHU, he served as the Lead Strength and Conditioning Coach for a Military Brigade leading a staff of 10 strength and conditioning coaches. DeCoursey and his team were responsible for optimizing soldier readiness and prepare them to perform in austere conditions.

Prior to that, he was a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Erie Sports Now Fitness and Performance, where he oversaw the physical development and programming for the local professional, collegiate, and youth athletes, including Mercyhurst and the Erie Otters. Prior to that, DeCoursey was in Worcester, Mass., coaching at Peak Fitness Performance, serving as the Head Strength and Conditioning Coach for Becker College and Worcester Academy primarily working with the Ice Hockey teams and assisting with the Worcester Railers.

DeCoursey received a Master’s degree in Sport and Exercise Science from Gannon University in Erie, Pa. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist through the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and has also acquired his EXOS Performance Specialist (XPS) certification.
